The Postie Bike

October 28, 2008 By Chris Mundy

Do you know how much fun it is to ride around on a Postie bike?

postie-0011For a change, it is a real blast. I am borrowing an Irish friend’s bike for a while until he can get his licence current, and to go down town for a spin is great. It is so light and robust. You can throw the thing around incredibly.

After sitting astride a large road bike, it is an amazing sensation to be on such a lightweight bike.A little Honda 105cc step-through!  Don’t be fooled by a small, fun bike though.

My Irish friend and another Aussie mate, took their postie bikes on a road trip for more than 2000 miles recently.

They carried all of their own gear, and camped their way up some of the east coast of Australia in winter.

Brave, stupid, crazy, or all 3?  They did struggle with respect from many of the trucks, and where there wasn’t much shoulder on the road, I understand there were many hairy moments.  But they made it.

Sometimes we fall into a mind-set trap, where we think of motorcycling in terms of our own paradigm. It is good to be extended, because there is no right or wrong (sounding very post-modernist!!).

postie-002It is simply a matter of enjoyment, practicality and viability for yourself at any given time.

Well until Irish Scott can get his licence updated, I am going to continue to enjoy the experience of going down to the beach on the postie bike.
