31 years of having a Motorcycle License

November 25, 2008 By Chris Mundy

This month I celebrate 31 years of having a Motorcycle License. I would love to say that I’ve been riding all those years, however, that would not be telling the truth. In that period I had a sixteen year break where I thought I’d probably never ride again.

Well, egged on from a bunch friends who knew me when I use ride, I started riding again, that was in 2006.

Back in 1977, I went to the Motor Registry in Parramatta, NSW Australia, to apply for my license. I did the written test which consisted of multiple choice question. Upon successful completion of the written test, there was the practical test.

I vividly remember when the license inspector sent me around the block on my Suzuki T20 to see how I rode; well, he stayed in front of the Motor Registry while I went round the block. I returned and did a u-turn on the bike and stopped in front of him and there I waited in anticipation of the “that was fantastic, congratulations”, to rather, “park the bike and come back inside.” I think I paid less than $10 AUD for my provisional license. So that was then.

Riding the second time round has been a buzz. Setting up Motorcycle Riding Central with my partner Phil has been ride in itself.

This month we’ve kicked off the Christmas store, knowing that some people will be finding it a little tight for Christmas. We’ve put together the store in collaboration with Amazon focusing on small gifts ranging from $0-$20, $20-$50, $50-$75, $75-$100. There maybe something there that interests you or someone close to you who rides.
